Full job details
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Lab Manager, the Barley Lead Lab Technician performs work involving the training new techs and testing of the product to ensure it meets customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following.
Support and improve laboratory operations
- Perform duties of Laboratory Technicians as required to maintain operational status during vacations, absences, vacancies, and work load variances.
- Gather information, evaluate data, and support implementation of continuous improvement or laboratory expansion activities.
- Provide training and improve skills of Laboratory Technicians.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of operator aids and procedures.
- Provide support and guidance during upset conditions.
- Ensure traceability of barley and oversee barley database. Produce reports as needed.
- Perform inspections of barley producing and storage facilities in support of vendor qualification program.
- Fill in for the Laboratory Manager or Lead Laboratory Technician as needed.
Maintain Laboratory
- Identify malfunctions/ errors of operational equipment and instruments and perform corrective maintenance as required.
- Maintain consumable levels by monitoring inventory levels and promptly ordering supplies.
Create a safe professional work environment
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with internal departments, customers, growers, drivers, and vendors.
- Maintain a safe working environment by following safety guidelines/ policies and act in a safety compliant manner.
- Report abnormal, unsafe, or operationally risky conditions in prompt and professional manner.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a science related field.
- 3 or more years of experience in a laboratory/ testing environment
- Able to read and interpret documents. English speaking required.
- Able to perform basic statistical analysis. Able to readily recognize mathematical errors.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- ERP/ data base experience; SAP preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with organizational and multi-tasking skills. Has an ability to recognize variances in forms and verbiage.
