Medical Laboratory Technologist

Schedule: Full-Time | No Weekends | No Holidays

Pay Range: $34.00per hour
Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other job-related factors.

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs routine and advanced laboratory testing in support of an invasive, non-invasive, and interventional cardiovascular practice. This position performs testing according to established procedures, operates laboratory equipment, evaluates testing methodologies, maintains accurate documentation, and provides day-to-day technical support and guidance to laboratory staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory tests and analyses on patient specimens in accordance with established testing procedures.

• Operates manual and automated laboratory equipment and performs required quality control procedures.

• Reviews, evaluates, and follows established laboratory testing procedures and methodologies.

• Assists with evaluating new testing procedures, methods, and equipment as needed.

• Accurately records, verifies, and releases laboratory test results in accordance with established procedures.

• Provides day-to-day technical guidance and support to laboratory staff and assists with assigning work based on department needs.

• Helps coordinate and prioritize departmental workload to ensure appropriate coverage and timely completion of testing.

• Communicates laboratory workflow issues, operational concerns, and employee performance matters to the appropriate supervisor.

• Assists with training and onboarding new laboratory employees and provides ongoing guidance related to laboratory procedures.

• Maintains accurate and complete documentation in accordance with applicable laboratory, medical record, HIPAA, and organizational requirements.

• Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.

• Follows applicable laboratory safety requirements, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

• Works collaboratively with physicians, clinical staff, laboratory personnel, patients, and other internal and external stakeholders.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

• Current certification/registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) through an appropriately recognized national certification organization, such as ASCP, as applicable to the position.

• Current Illinois licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, if required for the duties performed.

• Ability to perform laboratory testing accurately and efficiently while following established procedures and quality standards.

• Ability to operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and maintain accurate documentation.

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
