Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care in a busy outpatient Family Medicine practice. This position supports physicians and clinical staff through a blend of medical, clerical, and reception responsibilities. The CMA ensures smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and compassionate service aligned with Rowan Medicine’s mission and regulatory standards. Under physician direction and within State Regulations, the CMA may administer vaccinations and intramuscular/subcutaneous injections.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and sterilize instruments and equipment.
• Prepare patients for visits, including:
  • Escorting patients to exam rooms
  • Obtaining history and chief complaint
  • Recording vitals (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse)
• Perform diagnostic tests per standing orders: EKGs, blood draws, vision/hearing screenings, urine dips, PFTs.
• Administer vaccines and injections as delegated under State Regulations.
• Maintain clinical supply inventory and notify supervisor when ordering is needed.
• Assist physicians and nurses during examinations and procedures.
• Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens.
• Support minor surgical procedures and wound care.
• Ensure outside test results are available for physician review.
• Document all clinical information accurately in the EMR.
• Provide clinical services within scope and training, including:
  • Laboratory testing
  • Vision and audiology screenings
  • ECGs
  • Phlebotomy and specimen processing
  • Allergy screening
• Clean and maintain medical equipment.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
• Maintain accurate patient records and verify demographics and insurance.
• Answer phones and assist patients with professionalism and warmth.
• Handle billing, coding, co‑pay collection, batching, and deposit preparation.
• Obtain referrals, pre‑authorizations, and pre‑certifications.
• Coordinate prescription requests and document physician‑directed refills.
• Manage incoming/outgoing mail and prepare charts for next‑day visits.
• Open/close the office and manage security systems as assigned.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front office environment.
• Arrange patient services at outside facilities (surgeries, testing, etc.).
• Sign in/out of answering service daily.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Current CMA certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT).
• Eligibility under NJ regulations to administer intramuscular/subcutaneous injections.
• Demonstrated competency in injection techniques.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
• Experience with electronic health records.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
• Compassionate, patient‑focused demeanor.

Preferred

• One year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
• Pediatrics: knowledge of pediatric vaccines, schedules, administration, and triage.
• Familiarity with EPIC.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift/move medical equipment and supplies.
• Manual dexterity for clinical procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively under occasional stress.

Working Conditions

• Clinical environment with exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.

• May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.
• Occasional travel to another office within the department due to operational needs. Travel time will be compensated, and mileage reimbursed per company policy.

Salary & Benefits

• Starting Rate: $21.92/hour (Probationary Rate)
• Job Rate: $22.57/hour after six‑month probationary period
  • Candidates with relevant experience may start at the Job Rate.
