Education

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Successful completion of surgical technician training course in an academic or military setting.

Experience / Qualifications

• American Heart Association BLS Certification for Health Care Provider.
• One year experience as Surgical Technician preferred.

Position Summary

The  Scrub Technician is a member of the surgical team performing scrub duties throughout the surgical procedure. The scrub tech works under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

• The scrubtech assists the RN in maintaining the surgeon preferences for listed surgical procedures of the specialty assigned.
• Remain current with all the new procedures and are able to assist other team members with instrumentation and equipment associated specifically with the specialty.
• The collaborative efforts of both the RN and Scrub tech is the key to patient care excellence and physician satisfaction.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times, requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods.  The team member will need to frequently assist in lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, make sound decisions, and be detail-oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift to 50lbs.         

Threshold Requirements

• These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis.
  • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service, and health requirements, including attendance at new employee orientation.
  • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
  • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
