Position Summary:
A Lab Technician performs laboratory testing, sample preparation, measurement, data collection, and analysis to support product quality, manufacturing processes, material evaluation, and continuous improvement. Uses established laboratory methods and equipment to evaluate raw materials, process materials, and finished products; documents and communicates results; maintains laboratory equipment; and provides technical support to Laboratory, Engineering, Quality, Production, and other business partners.
Essential Functions:
- A Lab Technician prepares samples and performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests and analyses of raw materials, slips, glazes, bodies, inks, and other production materials using established testing methods and laboratory equipment.
- Receives, tests, analyzes, records, and reports laboratory results and maintains accurate documentation to support quality, production, engineering, and process requirements.
- Collects and compiles inspection and test data for statistical analysis, technical evaluation, and corrective or process-improvement activities.
- Investigates product or material quality concerns, including field-returned products as assigned, and documents findings for review and corrective action.
- Identifies and communicates test results, deviations, trends, and potential quality or process concerns and recommends appropriate corrections or improvements within the scope of the position.
- Performs product and competitive sample testing and communicates results to appropriate stakeholders.
- Provides technical testing and laboratory support to Engineering, Quality, Production, suppliers, customers, and other departments as needed.
- Performs routine calibration, inspection, cleaning, and care of laboratory equipment to support accurate testing and compliance with established standards.
- Supports research, evaluation, and development of new or modified materials and processes in collaboration with laboratory and engineering personnel.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and ensures laboratory materials and supplies are appropriately maintained for daily operations.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- A Lab Technician has the ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures, quality control and quality assurance terminology, technical instructions, and product labels.
- Basic mathematical and statistical skills and ability to accurately collect, calculate, record, and interpret laboratory data.
- Ability to safely operate laboratory testing and measurement equipment and perform routine equipment calibration and care.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample preparation, testing, measurement, documentation, and reporting.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to employees and cross-functional partners.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar PC-based applications.
- Ability to work independently within established procedures and collaborate effectively with laboratory, engineering, quality, production, supplier, and customer-facing teams.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- One to two years of laboratory, quality, manufacturing, materials testing, or related experience preferred.
Work Environment & Travel:
- Work is performed in laboratory and manufacturing environments and may include exposure to variable temperatures, humidity, moderate noise, chemicals, material dusts, odors, fumes, and moving industrial equipment.
- Required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include protective gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, protective sleeves, and safety shoes, must be worn as designated.
- Travel requirements: None.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for handling laboratory materials and equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch while preparing samples, performing tests, or accessing laboratory and production equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements and handle laboratory samples, tools, and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must have sufficient visual ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to observe test results, read instruments and product labels, distinguish colors, and perform detailed measurements and inspections.
