Lead Lab Assistant - Full Time

• Licensed or eligible for licensure (must obtain within 30 days of hire) as a Lab Assistant with Nevada Division of Public Health.

• American Heart Association BLS required

• Minimum of 5 years’ full time experience working as Laboratory Assistant/phlebotomist.
• Previous medical terminology and computer/data entry experience highly preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail required.
• Previous experience working in a hospital or customer service setting highly preferred.

• Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person is held accountable. Following are the essential functions of the job. 
• Obtains blood, urine and other clinical specimens in a manner, which will ensure acceptable and properly identified samples.
• Performs EKG’s according to established procedures.
• Collects and processes urine and hair for drug screens. Perform breath alcohol analysis if certified.
• Processes laboratory samples and delivers to clinical laboratory. Properly prepare specimens for shipment to other laboratories as appropriate. Log and process gross tissue samples for shipment to the pathologist.
• Enters Lab orders into LIS correctly and in a timely manner.
• Knows the proper use of centrifuges and other laboratory equipment used by laboratory assistants.
• Maintains adequate supplies, noting on order lists any shortages of supplies. Receives supplies and distributes to appropriate places within the Laboratory.
• Maintains equipment, specimen processing areas, and draw areas in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.
• Receives, checks off, logs, collates, and delivers laboratory reports; files reports and requisitions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Performs simple tests under supervision in accordance with established procedures and scope of practice.
• Support and help supervise the Lab Assistants and Lab Clerk in collaboration with the Lab Assistant supervisor, Lead CLS, and/or Technologist on duty.
• Assist lab assistant supervisor in any support for the Lab operational.
• Provide input to the Lab Director on work performance of Lab Assistants and Lab Clerk. 
• Provide input to Lab Director on overall operations in the out-patient draw area.
• Collaborate with Lab Assistant Supervisor and the lab Director and staff to ensure smooth flow of work.
• Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Assist any Lab operation project and daily workflow coordination.
• Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the department.
• Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital.
• Accepts assignment as preceptor for new staff include attending meetings on patient satisfaction
• Completes work assignments on time and readily accepts assignments, as observed by the Lab Director.
• Reports to work on time and remains at work as scheduled, as observed by the Lab Director.
• Monitors specimen labeling accuracy and workflow quality to support patient safety, timely processing, and overall laboratory performance.
• Supports quality initiatives by monitoring workflow performance, following up on identified issues, and ensuring appropriate KPI follow-through to promote timely completion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Tracks operational delays, reviews errors, initiates corrective actions, and follows up on incomplete tasks to support timely resolution and continuous improvement.
• Supports staff during periods of high workload and remains prepared to provide shift coverage as needed to maintain department operations.
• Ensures send-out specimens and related logs are checked, completed, and maintained accurately and in a timely manner.

• Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
• Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
• Performs patient care with attention to potential exposure to blood and body fluids to ensure a safe work environment.
• Performs hand hygiene according to policies and procedures.
• Utilizes standard precautions.

• Attend staff meetings according to the department policy.
• Maintains the current required license(s) for position.
• Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department.
• Practices within the legal boundaries of practice and according to hospital policy and procedures.
• Attend continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure. 

• All required safety education programs have been attended.
• Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
• Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
• Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
• Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
• If manager/leader, provides for the safety of department employees.

• Offers guidance and direction to the staff / personnel and communicates learning needs to the Lab Director.
• Acts as a role model for other staff when articulating information and perspectives.
• Anticipates needed information and updates, proactively communicates to Lab assistant supervisors and coworkers.
• Actively listens to others' perspectives in communication and encourages others to do so.
• Handles conflict well.
