Position Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other authorized healthcare professionals. The MA assists with patient intake, vital signs, medical histories, documentation, examinations, patient education, and coordination of care while working within applicable Georgia laws, facility policies, training, and delegated responsibilities. The MA serves as a primary support to fellow members of the treatment team and assists with daily program activities to ensure the integrity and quality of the program's environment of care.
Essential Functions
- Receive and process referrals from hospitals, treatment providers, physicians, courts, individuals, and other referral sources.
- Scheduling and coordinating client appointments.
- Conduct the initial screening using the facility's approved screening tool and admission criteria.
- Gather demographic, contact, insurance, referral, and psychosocial information.
- Obtain information regarding substance-use history and reason for seeking treatment, without representing the screening as the required medical admission assessment.
- Identify urgent medical, psychiatric, behavioral, or safety concerns and immediately refer them to the RN/medical provider.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight.
- Obtain and document patient medical history and medication information as directed.
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and appointments.
- Assist medical providers with examinations and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms and medical equipment.
- Collect and document appropriate clinical information for the medical provider.
- Assist staff with tasks related to the delivery and maintenance of program services.
- Monitor client activities, maintain awareness of daily treatment events, and assist staff and clients as needed or indicated.
- Assist treatment team when needed with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
- Conduct POC testing for clients as scheduled, in adherence with program policies & procedures and according to lab instruction.
- Reports any allegation or suspicion of client abuse, neglect or exploitation to management.
- Notifies management of any program policy or procedure violations.
- Prepares required documentation & reports according to company policies.
- Communicates client and staff concerns to appropriate supervisors and/or administration.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures, including professional conduct, professional dress, attendance, and punctuality.
- Conducts regular rounds of facility during each shift and reports on program services, treatment environment, and client activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisory Staff.
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant Certification
- Previous experience working within behavioral healthcare or medical setting preferred.
