Medical - Medical Assistant Supervisor

Marana Health is seeking a Medical Assistant Supervisor to join our Medical team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. 

The Medical Assistant Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, guidance, mentorship, and operational oversight to Medical Assistant (MA) staff while supporting high-quality patient care across primary care, specialty, clinical, and behavioral health services. This position partners with clinicians and staff to support efficient workflows, staff development, and a positive patient experience.

Marana Health is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 11 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Our mission is to improve our community by providing exceptional, whole-person healthcare.

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) OR CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions) OR offered through an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Valid current credentials as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from an accredited organization
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (may be completed with MH upon hire)
• First Aid certification (may be completed with MH upon hire)
• Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
• Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MH)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree in healthcare or business-related field
• Supervisory experience, or experience as a senior-level or lead Medical Assistant
• Experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered when it provides the knowledge and skills required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises and monitors performance for an assigned group of employees. Supervisory duties include hiring and disciplinary actions, overseeing work assignments and quality, scheduling and timekeeping, performance evaluations, and training and development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Competent in providing and supporting appropriate care for all age groups.
• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to the MA scope

    of practice and patient care requirements.

• Knowledge of chronic disease management and clinical coordination principles
• Computer proficient with Microsoft Office applications and EMR Systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, clinicians, patients, and leadership
• Excellent organization and time management skills with ability to manage competing

    demands and adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides operational oversight and supervision of day-to-day MA functions and clinical support workflows to ensure efficient and effective patient care operations.
• Coordinates MA schedules, staffing assignments, and workflow coverage across sites and service areas to support operational needs and continuity of care.
• In collaboration with the Nursing Manager, ensures MA staff across service areas and specialties receive orientation, mentoring, competency validation and ongoing training to provide high-quality patient care.
• Ensures activities are carried out in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Serves as a liaison between clinicians and the MA team.
• Supports integration and operational oversight of MA staff across specialty service areas to ensure consistency in workflows, training, and patient care standards.
• Assists clinicians with patient care, examinations, and procedures and performs other MA duties as needed.
• Maintains communication and collaborates with clinicians, specialty departments, and staff to support efficient workflows, minimize operational conflicts, and address concerns in a timely manner.
• Identifies workflow improvement opportunities and partners with leadership to implement operational enhancements that support efficiency, patient experience, and staff effectiveness.
• Ensures MAs obtain and document proper patient consent prior to treatments and procedures.
• Conducts frequent quality assurance audits of assigned staff.
• Completes assigned projects, which may require reviewing and analyzing information, identifying problems, and making recommendations for solutions.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and super-user for EMR workflows, system enhancements, and staff training as needed.
• Ensures MAs maintain documentation of patient care services by completing patient and department records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Ensures quality of care by maintaining clinical standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and protocols and following medication administration and storage procedures.
• Checks and monitors private and VFC vaccines expiration dates, counts, and reconciliation.
• Ensures adherence to infection prevention, sterilization, and clinical safety protocols in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Oversees medical equipment management, including preventive maintenance, inventory, troubleshooting, and coordination of repairs to support safe and effective patient care operations.
• Ensures appropriate levels of medical supply inventory, ensuring appropriate stock is available, avoiding overstock of supplies, and carefully observing expiration dates and budgetary considerations.
• Ensures timely reporting of communicable diseases and other required notifications in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational requirements.
• Ensures accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation of required reports and related records in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. 
• Participates in and supports ongoing educational opportunities, training programs, and professional development activities to maintain knowledge and promote continuous improvement.
• Leads or participates in committees, workgroups, quality initiatives, and special projects that support departmental and organizational goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
