We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full Time, Medical Receptionist 1 at Shore Gastroenterology in Oakhurst, NJ.
About the Role:
The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare facility, playing a critical role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records, which directly supports the smooth operation of medical services. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless coordination of care. Attention to detail and confidentiality are paramount, as the receptionist handles sensitive patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, the Medical Receptionist 1 contributes to a positive patient experience and supports the overall efficiency and professionalism of the healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
- Manage patient appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient information, update records, and ensure accuracy of demographic and insurance data.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical or administrative personnel.
- Collect and process patient co-payments and other payments as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to communicate patient arrivals and facilitate timely patient flow.
- Prepare and organize patient paperwork and documentation for medical staff.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and managing office supplies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain patient confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a medical receptionist or in a similar healthcare administrative role.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare billing processes.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in multiple scheduling and EHR software platforms.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the United States.
