Navajo Preference Employment Act

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides General MRI and MRA procedures as needed to maintain optimal patient flow.

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

The incumbent must have successfully completed radiology training from an AMA approved school of Radiology or have completed an MRI specific education program that includes both didactic coursework and clinical training which meets the standards set by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).

Certification:

• Must have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Must meet one of the following:

• Must have and maintain a current Arizona State License in Radiology and MRI and current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiology RT(R).
• Must have and maintain a current certification through American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

Experience:

Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in MRI procedures. 

Must have experience working with a PACS / RIS system, email and general computer programs.

Physical:

Must be able to sit at workstation for long periods of time, frequently stand, walk, maintain balance, reach and occasionally drive, bend, climb, kneel, crouch, and twist. Must write legibly and use a computer terminal. Must be able to push a patient cart and wheelchair with little or no effort. Must be able to push, pull, life frequently up to 75lbs and occasionally over 100lbs.  Must be able to push Echo/ultrasound equipment to other areas of facility for portable examinations when necessary. Must have ability of far, near and color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages and telephone use. Must have hand manipulation of frequent simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and use of keyboards.

Mental:

Must be able to prioritize, use good judgment and coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted. Must be able to continually concentrate, work alone, and demonstrate a high degree of patience, frequently cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way, handle a high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, adapt to shift work, and occasionally manage altercations and work in areas that are close and crowded.

Environmental:

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Excels at explaining procedures and protocols. Demonstrates initiative and offers to train others. Presents pertinent information to staff after attending workshops and seminars. Takes responsibility of own educational requirements and exceeds the required.
2. Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee and hospital information.
3. Participates in projects and assists in the development and implementation of procedures and policies.
4. As an MRI Technologist, incumbent is responsible for quality control activities which include, but are not limited to, making minor adjustments to equipment such as setting up step wedges and when necessary changing transverse length adjusters.
5. Performs daily-required calibration tests and recording appropriate equipment errors in the log.
6. Recognizes equipment malfunctions, contacts appropriate Service Engineer describes problem and communicates the engineer's response to supervisor and other technologists. After repair of equipment, incumbent verifies that the Service Engineer has performed post repair quality control tests, which indicate that the equipment is operating in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and standards.
7. Assists the Branch of Radiology in developing, establishing, and monitoring techniques and procedures fundamental to instituting and maintaining a Radiographic Quality Control program through, (1) Processor monitoring and control, (2) Monitoring equipment performance, and (3) monitoring accessory equipment. The incumbent is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and updating a policy and procedure manual for this specialized area of the Branch of Radiology Services.
8. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination in various examinations. Ensures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and other required equipment are present and laid out.
9. Maintains integrity of patient records within the hospital PACS computer system, creates CD copies of exams as requested, quality assurance records, current operating policy manuals and other materials as necessary to insure adequate patient treatment and referral as necessary. Interacts per policy for patient electronic health record needs in professional manner.
10. Keeps repair and maintenance records of the radiographic unit.
11. Procures stores and routes supplies for room preparation, recommends the procurement and necessity for maintenance and servicing of equipment.
12. Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
13. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
14. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
