POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Lab Assistant in Lab Outreach will provide a wide range of mobile phlebotomy laboratory services including specimen collection via mobile phlebotomy, ordering, phlebotomy dispatch, specimen processing, centrifuging, and collecting and receiving specimens in our EHR (electronic health record). Will deliver specimens to the appropriate lab department while ensuring proper efficiency and workflow management. Will also serve as a resource for questions from internal and external customers regarding specimen handling and processing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • Safely and legally operate Park Nicollet vehicles, must have a valid driver’s license. May be required to drive personal car on an occasional basis.

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills, ability to work independently, good problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time sensitive customer requests and changes on short notice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred.

• Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • ASCP certification for phlebotomy preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. (70%) – Perform patient Mobile Phlebotomy on patients of all ages in accordance with Laboratory policy, verifying that correct patient identification is carried out through all stages of sample collection and /or processing.

   1. Driving to various locations

   2. Drawing specimens from patients

   3. Ordering specimen testing

   4. Providing superior customer service to patients

2. (10%) – Utilize computer to access laboratory information management system to document specimen tracking and obtain relevant patient information.

3. (Ongoing) – Dispatch phlebotomist for daily assignments and breaks to meeting published turnaround times.

4. (5%) – Deliver specimens to the lab directly, once collected and received.

5. (15%) – Rotate to other sites or departments as directed including, HOD and Hospital In patient.

6. (Ongoing) – Communicate effectively and regularly with coworkers, LA2 (Mentor) team leader, technical specialists, supervisors, and managers.

7. (Ongoing) – Participate in Completion of performance appraisals using the automated electronic system (GPS) to provide input for self, peers, and leaders.

8. (Ongoing) – Attend and/or complete all assigned PNHS mandatory training and laboratory specific competency testing as scheduled.

9. (Ongoing) – Model and promote the head and heart behaviors.

10. (5%) – Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to, training new and existing employees, preparing next day routes, ordering future orders, answering phone calls, activating and printing all Change Health Care Orders including today and future dates, phlebotomy support for HOD, phlebotomy support for In Patient Phlebotomy and cleaning/washing and fueling company cars.
