Pathology Laboratory Assistant

Position Summary

Orlando Health is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Pathology Laboratory Assistant to support daily operations within the pathology laboratory. In this role, you will assist with specimen processing, tissue preparation, laboratory organization, and support services that help ensure efficient pathology operations and high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and accession pathology specimens utilizing laboratory information systems.
• Organize, file, inventory, and dispose of pathology specimens according to established procedures.
• Load and process tissue specimens using tissue processors.
• Assist with frozen section processing to support timely diagnostic services.
• Maintain slide and tissue block filing systems.
• Retrieve specimens, tissue blocks, and slides for pathologists, residents, and laboratory staff.
• Perform routine maintenance and solution changes on laboratory equipment and processors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Report environmental or equipment issues through appropriate channels.
• Support additional laboratory functions, including report processing, specimen preparation, filing, and send-out requests.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with all safety and infection control standards.
• Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

• No prior experience required.

Licensure/Certification

• No licensure or certification required.
