The Division of Pathology, Clinical Pathology Laboratory within the ENBRC is currently seeking a full-time Phlebotomist I to join our team on a temporary basis. Our division is one of four units that provide comprehensive support for diagnostic pathology services, including Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Biological Material Procurement, and Biological Material Shipping.
The Clinical Pathology Laboratory (CPL) provides high-quality diagnostic laboratory testing support for both experimental, study-related requests and clinical animal wellness needs. Our technical staff are dedicated professionals and accomplished experts who hold certifications through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and/or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Laboratory testing is performed in accordance with strict quality assurance practices to ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality results. The laboratory is equipped with up-to-date instrumentation that is maintained under current vendor service agreements to support optimal performance. Compliance with internal and external quality control practices further ensures reliable and accurate results. Services offered by the CPL include hematology, chemistry, parasitology, fluid analysis, microbiology, general specimen processing, and hazardous materials biological shipping.

The Phlebotomist I will be a collaborative team player who is eager to learn and willing to support laboratory and Center operations as needed. This individual will help ensure the highest quality of laboratory and research support and should possess strong communication skills when working with laboratory colleagues, the management team, principal investigators, research staff, students, and other support services.
The ideal candidate will be qualified and comfortable performing venipuncture for human donor collections and occupational employee-related exposure incidents, as well as administering and reading TB skin tests for employee staff members. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to patient and employee safety, quality practices, confidentiality, and professional customer service.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Collects, labels, and processes patient specimens following strict protocol for the collection of blood samples, including patient identification and universal infection control procedures.
- Ensures the accurate labeling of all specimens according to protocol.
- Maintains and inspects supply levels to ensure immediate availability.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a training course or one year of experience as a phlebotomist.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Phlebotomy certification, familiarity working in laboratory settings, excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work schedule: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Work environment involves working with biohazardous blood and tissues.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work is normally performed in a typical laboratory environment.
- Requires the ability to bend, kneel, and/or squat
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING STATEMENT:
The Emory National Biomedical Research Center (ENBRC), in conjunction with Emory University, conducts pre-employment screenings for all positions. These screenings may include an Information Network Associates (INA) and criminal background check, and verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. In addition, the process may include a drug screening with health assessment, and review and mandate for various vaccinations. Updated COVID-19 vaccinations may be necessary for specific research projects.
