Quality Control Lab Technician

The Quality Control Lab Technician supports daily quality-control testing to make sure raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products meet established specifications before they move forward in production or ship to customers. This is a hands-on lab role. The technician collects and prepares samples and runs routine tests, including pH testing with a probe and viscosity testing. The technician records results accurately in Excel and lab records. The technician reports any out-of-specification results immediately to Quality and Production. The lab is fast-paced, and testing is time-sensitive, so the technician handles several tests at once while following established test methods and procedures. This is a swing-shift position, typically 9:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Collect, handle, and prepare laboratory samples for testing.
• Perform routine quality-control testing and verify production results against established specifications.
• Accurately document test results and maintain detailed laboratory records.
• Assist with calibration and verification of laboratory equipment.
• Communicate out-of-specification or unusual results to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow established laboratory procedures, test methods, and work instructions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Work collaboratively with Quality, Production, and other departments to help resolve product-quality issues.
• Properly handle laboratory materials and equipment.
• Follow applicable safety procedures and wear required PPE.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in a Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Research & Development, or laboratory environment.
• An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant work experience will also be considered.
• Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Be comfortable standing and moving throughout the laboratory approximately 85% of the workday.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Associate degree in a technical or scientific field. An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant work experience will also be considered.
• 30-hour certificate in a technical field.
• Basic understanding of laboratory concepts and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions.
• Dependability and good time-management skills.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
• Commitment to laboratory cleanliness and housekeeping.
• Ability to adapt to changing production priorities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer and data-entry skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
