Overview
The Specimen Processing Technician is responsible for the processing and allocation of laboratory specimens and orders from all sources. Responsible for verification of proper patient and specimen identification, appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders. Organizes laboratory workflow and appropriately prioritizes processing and distribution of specimens. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test request, accession, correctly label and deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory sections within acceptable time frames. Performs specified procedures within scope of established testing methods and responsibilities. Performs and appropriately documents routine maintenance and quality control procedures on specified equipment and troubleshoots as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
