Ultrasound Technologist

Job Description

Utilizes non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic wave equipment to perform diagnostic and screening ultrasound exams.

Job Responsibility

1.Collaborates with Physician/Radiologist to confirm required exam details and ensure optimal quality of images.
2.Enters patient history and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition for correlation with exam being performed.
3.Explains procedure to patient. Ensures patient is positioned appropriately for exam. Utilizes shields, immobilization and supportive devices, as needed.
4.Sets-up equipment to administer particular exam and operates controls to obtain correct exposure.
5.Performs ultrasound exams according to established standards and procedures of division.
6.Assists Physician during procedures requiring ultrasound guidance, as needed.
7.Provides backup support in other sonographic modalities, as appropriate.
8.Observes patient and recognizes any changes in condition according to established safety standards. Promptly reports to appropriate clinician.
9.Ensures image quality and labels with required information. Transmits images to Radiologist and required record-keeping systems.
10.Documents exam and results in patient’s medical record.
11.Calibrates and cleans equipment. Performs regular quality control tests and promptly reports any repair needs to management.
12.Monitors and maintains supply inventory in assigned areas.
13.Keeps work area and clean and organized, according to established safety standards
14.Collaborates with healthcare team to ensure seamless continuity of care and optimal patient safety.
15.Participates in performance improvement and quality control activities.

Job Qualification

1.Graduate from accredited Ultrasound or related program, required
2.One (1) of the following credentials required:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS),
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS),
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS),
Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS),
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT),
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS),
Registered Technologist in Sonography (R.T.(S)).
3.Prior imaging experience, preferred.
