Job Details: Job Location: HARLINGEN CLINIC - HARLINGEN, TX, Salary Range: Undisclosed, GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: FULLTIME:   Nights/weekends                                                                           Monday – Friday 1:00PM – 8:30PM (occasionally 8am – 830pm) Saturday & Sunday 11am – 430 PM (1 weekend off per month) This position is vital in the health care delivery system.   This is traditionally the patient’s first clinical point of contact so patient relationship, management of patient care, management of patient information, team communication, and demonstration of conduct and activities using patient centered medical home principles, policies and procedures is critical.  Supports the vision and the mission of the Clinic at all times. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (with or without accommodations) Patient relationship: Will greet and welcome the patient in a pleasant, respectful, culturally, and linguistically appropriate manner. Assure all patient questions are answered in a positive and cordial manner.  Assures the patient that has a clear understanding of all communications. Communicates patient’s problem/complaint to the provider.  Reinforces the patients the importance of keeping appointments or communicating changes in their appointments. Ask the required questions for a proper assessment.   Management of patients' care: Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes the patient’s history and vital signs.  Prepares examination and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies. Give injections that are in their scope of practice. Assists with refills, reviews all patient medications as per protocols.  Initiates note for the nurse on call or others to alert information regarding a patient. Assist the providers as requested. May collect and process biological specimens for analysis and other lab tests. Assists with scheduling tests or treatments as requested.   Manages patient information: Takes and documents patient’s history and vital signs. Performs pre-visit chart reviews for required health indicators, vaccines, labs, etc. Reviews chart under the direction of provider and obtains and places report results in charts. Makes list of anticipated needs for patients (vaccines, labs,etc.) Assures the patient information and records is completed timely and is current. Adheres to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic.  Communicates patient information as requested to enhance patient services.   Team communication: Actively participates in team huddles to ensure maximum appointments, gaps in the day, and work on same day access. Meets with the team to ensure that the provider’s productivity and schedule is reviewed and populated throughout the day.  Helps in the orientation of new employees or students.  Works with unit team members as well as other clinic personnel to ensure a smooth patient flow.  Communicates specific patient needs and/or population management information.   Demonstration of safe and professional conduct: Maintains a friendly and safe environment for self and others. Response to emergency situations as per training.  Refrains from texting and speaking on the cell phone while on duty. Refrains from informal communication with patients and others. Fully participates in performance improvement and follows all the Clinic policies and procedures. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with Clinic leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CNE attendance, etc.).  Must always adhere to a professional appearance in dress and behavior/conduct.   POSITION DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: None Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (use of equipment, job related knowledge, language, etc.) Knowledge of practice level procedures, techniques, and practice of patient care. Knowledge and skilled in use of computer and computer software (EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) programs as necessary and telephone system. Knowledge of community resources Knowledge and skills when using PPE Knowledge of SC policies and procedures. Knowledge of the Chronic Care Model and Patient-Centered Medical Home Model (PCMH).          Skilled in excellent customer service. Ability to complete basic/intermediate math computations and medical math conversions. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule. Ability to maintain an effective and professional working relationship with the public and co-workers. Ability to maintain client, office confidentiality and abides by confidentiality expectations and HIPAA guidelines. Ability to prepare records in accordance to detailed instructions. Ability to read, write and speak in a clear, accurate and professional manner; includes active listening skills and understanding medical terminology. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.                                         Ability to work with medical equipment to include but not limited to: electronic and manual vital signs measurement, auditory and visual examinations, oxygen and suction apparatus, peak flow meters.   Able to bend, stretch, stoop, stand, sit, and lift 20 lbs. Able to show excellent interpersonal skills reflecting clarity, diplomacy and communicates accurately and effectively with all levels of staff and management. Ability to communicate concerns to appropriate personnel using tact and diplomacy. Ability to interpret and translate for the provider when necessary. Ability to keep up with trainings and recent events, such as Covid-19. Ability to fully comply with the enhanced infection control requirements of the clinic. Ability to do Covid-19 screenings using full PPE.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Minimum of 1 year medical assistant work experience in a hospital or medical clinic setting preferred. Current certification as a registered or certified medical assistant required. Must be computer literate. Must be current with BLS/CPR. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. This position requires an initial N95 mask fit testing and annual test fitting thereafter unless there is a significant change during the year that requires retesting prior to the annual fit testing.   SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: This position requires travel. Employee must provide transportation.  If employee operates a personal      motor vehicle in the performance of their official duties, the employee must possess a current valid Texas driver’s license for the appropriate type of vehicle and Texas Liability insurance. This position requires that an employee’s driving record be verified with law enforcement to ensure compliance with SC’s driving policy.   Due to the nature of SC Services, it may be necessary for employees to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care to patients and to maintain service to the community.
