The Laboratory Assistant supports the operational needs of classroom and research laboratories. This role focuses on day‑to‑day preparation, organization, and safety tasks under the direction of laboratory leadership. The Laboratory Assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Laboratory Support
Prepare basic reagents, solutions, and materials for instructional and clinical laboratory sessions.
Assist with routine setup and breakdown of classroom and research lab environments.
Monitor and report supply levels to ensure adequate stock for scheduled activities.
Support routine research laboratory activities and general upkeep as directed by the Research Director or Department Chairs.
Assist with creating and maintaining centralized Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each lab including general supply list, inventory management, procurement directions and scheduling, set-up/close-down procedures.
Inventory & Safety
Receive, label, and store laboratory chemicals and supplies according to established protocols.
Maintain and update Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files under supervision.
Assist with segregation and handling of biohazard waste and materials designated for autoclaving.
Other Responsibilities
Follow institutional and regulatory safety protocols at all times.
Maintain clean, organized laboratory work areas.
Perform other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.
QualificationsPreferred Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biological sciences, or a related field, or commensurate laboratory experience.
Working knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety practices, and OSHA standards.
Experience in academic, clinical, or research laboratory settings preferred.
