JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant/Float provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, licensed providers, and clinic operations across departments and/or locations based on organizational needs. Unlike a Medical Assistant assigned primarily to one department, the Float Medical Assistant is expected to provide coverage and supplemental support wherever staffing, patient volume, employee absences, vacancies, or other operational needs require additional assistance.

This position requires flexibility and adaptability and may be reassigned between departments, providers, specialties, and/or clinic locations during a scheduled workday or workweek. The Float Medical Assistant performs duties consistent with the employee’s training, demonstrated competency, Medical Assistant scope of practice, and applicable organizational policies.

The position supports efficient patient flow, continuity of operations, and high-quality patient-centered care while complying with applicable federal and state requirements and organizational policies.

Requirements

MINIMUM & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant training program that meets California requirements (accredited or approved training program).

Experience 

Minimum: None

Preferred: Experience working in a medical office or outpatient clinic.

Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.

Certification(s)

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Medical Assistant certification (CCMA, RMA, CMA, or NCMA) preferred but not required unless mandated by specialty or payer programs.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

· Knowledge of clinical workflows, medical terminology, and basic anatomy/physiology.

· Understanding of California MA scope of practice and tasks requiring provider supervision.

· Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

· Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer applications.

· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when handling confidential or sensitive situations.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are represented of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, bend, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand or stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must exhibit the ability to assist patients with mobility, positioning, or transfers as needed. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids, chemicals, and infectious materials with required PPE provided. Work is performed in a standard outpatient medical office, exam room, and clinical setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

PAY RANGE

$25.00 - $28.00 / hourly
