Phlebotomist

Job Details: Job Location: UCL Employees - West Palm Beach, FL, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Job Shift: Day,   The Phlebotomist is responsible for safely and accurately collecting blood and other laboratory specimens from patients in accordance with established clinical procedures, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards. The Phlebotomist provides professional and compassionate patient care while ensuring specimens are properly identified, labeled, handled, stored, and transported for laboratory testing. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, professional, and comfortable working with patients in a behavioral health and/or healthcare environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and other approved specimen collection procedures safely and efficiently. Collect blood, urine, and other specimens as ordered and within the scope of training and certification. Verify patient identity and laboratory orders prior to specimen collection. Explain collection procedures to patients and answer questions in a professional and reassuring manner. Properly label, document, process, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory and organizational procedures. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of specimen collections and related patient information. Follow all infection prevention, bloodborne pathogen, OSHA, HIPAA, and safety requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked phlebotomy/work area. Properly dispose of needles, sharps, biohazard materials, and other medical waste. Monitor and maintain adequate supplies and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies need to be reordered. Recognize and appropriately respond to patient reactions or complications related to specimen collection, including dizziness, fainting, or bleeding. Communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers, laboratory personnel, and other members of the healthcare team. Protect patient confidentiality and maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies. Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and cultural sensitivity when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers. Follow all facility policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. Participate in required training, meetings, competency assessments, and continuing education. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program or equivalent education/training. Current phlebotomy certification, registration, or licensure as required by applicable state regulations. Previous experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection. Ability to accurately identify patients and specimens and maintain appropriate documentation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Preferred Previous experience in a behavioral health, residential treatment, hospital, outpatient, or other healthcare setting. Experience working with individuals who may have anxiety, behavioral challenges, or special healthcare needs. Current CPR/BLS certification. Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements associated with specimen collection. Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and lift supplies as needed. Ability to safely handle blood and other potentially infectious materials. Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and equipment as required by the position. Ability to perform duties in accordance with applicable workplace safety requirements.       Qualifications:
